Harissa Fried Chicken
Spicy Harissa Fried Chicken:
Ingredients:
4 boneless chicken breasts, cut into strips
1 cup buttermilk
2 tbsp. harissa paste
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. smoked paprika
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions:
In a bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and harissa paste until smooth. Add the chicken strips to the bowl and toss to coat in the mixture. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight.
In another bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
Heat a large pot or Dutch oven filled with vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F.
Working in batches, remove the chicken strips from the buttermilk mixture, shaking off any excess, and toss them in the flour mixture until well coated.
Carefully add the chicken strips to the hot oil and fry until they are crispy and golden brown, about 5-7 minutes.
Use a slotted spoon to remove the chicken strips from the oil and place them on a wire rack to drain off any excess oil.
Serve the Spicy Harissa Fried Chicken hot, garnished with fresh herbs or sliced green onions.
